Artificial Hair

Creative Resources Distribution holds stock of Italian made artificial hair for movie prop construction, FX work, costuming, mask and monster making etc.

This hair comes in long pre-packed locks as pictured – each one is over two metres long and weighs over 400g. The hair inside is coiled up in what appears to be one continuous length – so you can open one end and pull it out without it getting tangled. It comes out with a curl to it, but it appears that it can be straightened by stretching it out and steaming it, although you’ll have to experiment for the desired results.

Artificial Teeth

Creative Resources Distribution holds stock of artificial monster teeth for movie prop construction, FX work, costuming, animatronics and monster making etc.

Please note that these teeth are not designed to be wearable - they are for prop making and display use or animatronics.

Teeth are supplied as two parts, upper and lower jaw, as pictured. They are approximately 'large human adult' sized measuring 74mm across at their widest point.

Both parts are solid cast in urethane resin and supplied unpainted. A suitable plastic primer should be used before painting as required.

Klean Klay

Klean Klay is a non-drying, non-hardening, sulphur-free modelling clay for a variety of applications. It is non-toxic, sanitary, and odourless. Klean Klay is easy to handle and work with and remains hand-pliable at room temperature. Klean Klay keeps its smooth, firm consistency and retains the shape into which it is moulded.

EM-217 / WED Clay

Creative Resources Distribution holds UK stock of EM-217 / WED clay, imported from Laguna Clay in California, USA.

WED clay is popular in the movie and effects industry for creating large detailed sculptures. WED clay is a part water based clay, but dries more slowly and has some qualities similar to oil based clay.

WED clay can be kept moist for months if the sculpture is kept in a plastic bag, or under a wet towel, although WED clay is not considered reusable like pure oil based clays.

Armature Wire

Creative Resources Distribution holds stock of square cross-section aluminium armature wire for basing your sculpture on. This wire can be bent by hand, although for sharp bends you will need a pair of pliers. You can generally cut it with wire cutters, but you might need a small hacksaw for the 7mm depending on how strong your grip is.

Mannequin Heads for Display & Sculpting Armatures

Creative Resources Distribution holds stock of mannequin heads & shoulders with square bases to make them really stable. This means they are great for displaying heavy hats or helmets, or to use as a sculpting armature to stick clay all over during your custom helmet or mask sculpt project.

Jesmonite AC100

-Non-toxic – no nasty fumes
-Non-flammable – safe to store
-Can be used for casting or laminating
-Water based – easy clean up
-Compatible with a wide range of paint or varnish

Creative Resources Distribution holds stock of the Jesmonite AC100 water based casting and laminating solution. Jesmonite AC100 is provided as a liquid and a powder which are mixed at a ratio of 1 part liquid to 2.5 parts powder by weight, although in testing a ratio of 1:3 was preferred. A Thixotrope product is also available for Jesmonite in order to make a gel coat - this should be added drop by drop until the desired consistency is achieved.

-Small quantities can be mixed by hand
-Pot life after mixing 8-15 mins
-Solidifies within 30 mins
-Demould after 1-2 hours
-Achieves full strength after 24-48 hours
-Is a white / light grey colour when set
-Can be painted with water based paints or cellulose car paints etc

Jesmonite AC100 contains no solvents as it is water based, therefore it is non-toxic and non-flammable; it has no nasty fumes like polyester resin. Jesmonite AC100 is a weather resistant product, although it should be sealed for permanent use outdoors, it also has full fire certification for Class 0. Jesmonite AC100 is compatible with both Latex and Silicone moulds – no release agent is required.

Stock is also held of Jesmonite Stitched Quadaxial Glass Fabric Mat which is designed for water based casting systems to add additional strength to laminated structures. The open weave of the fabric makes it very easy to wet through. Generally two layers are required for a laminate 5-6mm thick. This mat can also be used with plaster, or any other water based casting system. Jesmonite Stitched Quadaxial Glass Fabric weighs very roughly 160gsm.

Creative Resources Distribution has also conducted its own strength tests of Jesmonite AC100, on structures reinforced with standard fibreglass surface tissue and chopped strand mat. Be sure to check out the Jesmonite Strength Testing Page including video of destruction testing.

Alginate

Creative Resources Distribution holds stock of Alginate in large 550g packs for life casting and one off moulding applications. Alginate is non-toxic and safe for moulding directly from a person’s skin – hands, faces etc.

This Alginate is considered to be slow setting which is around four minutes – watch out for other Alginate that is fast setting because you won’t have much time to apply it before it sets.

Liquid Latex

Creative Resources Distribution holds stock of Liquid Latex, Latex Thickener, and Latex colour pigments for mould making by brushing or dipping, or general FX work, movie prop construction, and costuming.

Note that this latex is specified to be 60.5% rubber solids as standard.

Hard Casting Plasters

Creative Resources Distribution holds UK stock of hard casting plasters for casting, mould making, general FX work, movie prop construction, costuming and model making.

Herculite 2 is widely used for making negative moulds for latex masks and general casting.

Crystacal R is a harder plaster, very similar to Ultracal 30 which is widely used in the USA and FX business.

Stock is also held of cotton scrim fabric for reinforcing plaster structures.

Fibreglass Surface Tissue

Creative Resources Distribution holds UK stock of Fibreglass Surface Tissue, which is supplied off the roll in lengths of 5 metres upwards.

These fibreglass cloth products are compatible with standard Polyester resin, and also water based casting and laminating resin products.

Fillite

Standard Fillite is also stocked, in a variety of pack sizes. Fillite is typically mixed with resin to lighten the cast and make make the resin go further.
